Jeep Renegade Concept 2008

A decade ago at the 2008 Detroit motor show, Jeep produced a fun, beach-buggy inspired off-roader with the Renegade label. A range-extended EV, it featured a diesel engine as well as a battery big enough for 40 miles on plug-in power.

Principal exterior designer Anton Shamenkov described it as a “hang on and have fun” kind of car, exemplified by skeleton doors that seem to have more in common with restraining bars of a rollercoaster than regular car bodywork.

Shamenkov’s two breezy sketches from 2007 beautifully illustrate the concept’s lively character.
