BMW’s X2 compact crossover was first unveiled as a lightly disguised concept edition at the 2016 Paris motor show.

The X2 is intended as a more rakish alternative to the similarly sized X1, though it lacks the fastback styling of the larger X4 and X6 coupĂ©-SUVs. Instead, a shallower glasshouse gives the X2 a more purposeful look than BMW’s odd-numbered X-cars.

Styling for both the concept and production X2 has been credited to BMW exterior designer Sebastian Simm, whose signature can be found on some of the sketches shown here.
